Are you at full health?
Are you stunned?
Are you so close to killing your target that nothing you do could stop yours or your pet's blow from landing?
Have you just used Wizard's Fire for a little added damage?
Is Staff-strike in the process of landing?
Chances are, your pet is just about to Flank!
...Wait, what's flanking? Is it those little arrows that appear at the sides of your enemy once every other hour?
Why yes. Yes it is.
With that out of my system I deeply wonder about the mechanics of Flanking, given that the thing seems to redefine the words "random" and "luck" ...or the lack of that last one. While it can be superbly beneficial at crucial moments during an encounter, it just has a knack for occuring when least desirable. I couldn't care less about Flank-healing myself when I've just initiated on my target. I want to rip my hair out when the thing fails to happen as my health is in the double digits. There's no sense to it at all.
I get it, the Lore-master is a highly difficult class. I chose it for that reason, well that and my supportive playstyle. We have so many tools for so many situations that we wouldn't want it to be too easy in that we can self-heal whenever appropriate. I get that. But the LM seems to be the only class that suffers from one such deficiency. I can quite often count on my reactions as a Guardian. I crit faces off as my Hunter or Champion. Sometimes it's overkill, but the point is that it never falls short.
As a level 40 Lore-master I've simply found that flanking never happens when you need it to. It's a bone thrown at you at random, saying "Hey, you can heal yourself/restore your power/smack harder with your staff for 8 seconds!" But your morale/power are full and Staff-strike is on cooldown. The slightest bit of consistency would be appreciated. I'd rather flank on a somewhat regular basis than have it happen 3 times on the same target, or once within a half hour of fighting mobs, and then never again for as long as I'm logged on.
Can't be the only one irked by this...
